DECOLONYCITIES

October 2019 / 2 & 5 pm.

What do we know about the German colonial past? How can we bring it back in todays memories through other narratives? Which important role did the city of Hamburg play in this colonial past? How can we shift the perspective of power and opression through bodies?

In an own artistically research a group of Tanzanian dancers will develop another new perspective of the port of Hamburg and of the HafenCity. They are strongly coneccted to the German colonial past. The first one historically the second one as the newest neighboorhood in Hamburg, naming its streets after the "conquerors" of the "New World" like Vasco de Gama, Magallan oder Marco Polo.

Here, dancers from Dar es Salaam and Hamburg meet and embark on their own story telling by exploring the city and their colonial past. Experience with us this unusual new and critical- and artistical decolonizing view of the city.
